So usually when I finish work at 7am after a graveyard shift, I’d make my way home and would find myself in bed by about 10am at latest. Except, with the awesome exchange rates going on at the moment, Jasey texted me and asked if I wanted to go and exchange some for Chinese RMB for the holiday at the end of the year. I was happy to do that except for the fact that she had class between 10am...

Datong
Datong is a satellite city in Shanxi province that resides approximately 2 hour’s west of Beijing. Here it’s renowned for two main attractions:
The Hanging Monastery were buildings built some 1400 years ago and were basically elevated on stilts. Here you can see that they were attached to the face of a mountainous cliff of the Jinxia Gorge and generally were raised to a higher...

Beijing (Part 3)
A spare day will be dedicated to what’s left..
The Temple of Heaven’s direct translation is the Altar of Heaven. In its very essence, this magnanimous structure was built during the Tao Dynasty as a site for seasonal visitations from the Emperor and royal family members to pray for rich harvest. It epitomises the very religious foundations of Chinese beliefs.
During the evening,...
I can never understand..
A) People who travel to destinations because everyone else is even though the place holds little interest for them.
B) People who travel just to shop and “chill” because going to see historical sites or going on a hike is too tiring.
Stay home.

Beijing (Part 2)
People’s perceptions of the way the Great Wall looks are this:
But in fact, I’ll be hiking the 3 km strip known as Jinshanling which looks like this:
An untouched section of the great wall hiking from Jinashanling to Simatai where all ruins of the wall remain.
The Ming Tombs are on the way back after the 3 hour hike:
The Ming dynasty was famous for its powerful...
Positive Vibe
Being an intrinsic person, my thought processes towards certain topics on life almost always find themselves buried into the back of my consciousness. And that by being kept under wraps, it’s my daily interactions that can sometimes shovel these issues back abroad.
Speaking just recently to a school friend who had returned from an 8 month long round-the-world trip, she had obviously...

Final words of encouragement
What’s initially started out as a blog of personal likes and distastes, I’ve evolved it into a more niche and original space. I’m aiming to foster a wider travel community within Tumblr (nothing against Wordpress) as well as hope to continue to gain followers from outside of it. From now on I’ll be aiming to provoke thoughts and present my experiences and observations...

Just over 40 days left and my thoughts..
It wasn’t that long ago that I had seen this trip as something worth anticipating in a nearer future and yet after booking my flights in April, here I find myself six months later and the study semester almost over, crossing off the days on my calendar.
I’ve basically by-passed any form of outings at all when it’s not necessary and every cent earned has been transferred into...
The Day US Customs Found A Bullet In My Pocket |... →
Up until this point, I had really hoped that the Officer would not look in the side pocket of my backpack. But when he began to unzip the zipper, I had no choice but to take a deep breath and prepare for his reaction.
In that pocket was a box of candy, although this was no ordinary box of M&Ms. It was a box of “Osama bin Laden Kulfa Balls” a popular hard candy that can be found...

Poverty In Pudong | A Pair of Panties and Boxers →
I paid ¥20 for a cab ride down to People’s Park (人民公园), ¥10 to see the Gaudi exhibit at the MOCA, ¥40 for lunch at Pizza Hut, ¥50 for a shuttle ride to the Oriental Pearl Tower, another ¥50 for dinner and ¥1o for extraneous expenses. I dropped ¥170 like it was nothing because in my mind that was only $10.
My friend (at the time) JC and I walked along the Huangpu River that night. We...

Tumblr lacks a genuine travel community
And I don’t mean simple re-bloggings and happy snaps of their favourite destinations to justify their space as a travel blog.
I mean real live accounts of current travel adventures - On. The. Go.
And to a certain extent, I’m guilty of producing the same thing but here’s to hoping things will change beginning with December and China.
Watch this space.

The Moment →
metheliving:
The Misconception: You are one person, and your happinessis based on being content with your life.
The Truth: You are multiple selves, and happiness is based on satisfying all of them.
Have you ever been so sick you spent a week on the couch?
What do you remember from that period of time?
Mostly nothing, right?
All throughout your life great big patches of experience are tossed...

Hello To Earth: Frontliner Woes →
hellotoearth:
This is unrelated to travel, but I feel that it’s significant enough to share to others.
I’m a frontliner for a certain museum here in Manila. I like my job and I like the tasks that I do, but there is only so much that I can handle without exploding in frustration. This blog entry is dedicated…
